About me: I specialize in sports medicine and arthroscopy; many of my patients are athletes and senior citizens. I'm strongly committed to Evidence-Based Medicine, patient education, and shared decision-making. I value communication with my patients and make every effort to focus on that in my practice. Knowledge is power - and it is not to be feared.
I maintain a blog on my website, and am committed to patient education and the advances in technology that allow for better-informed patients and better-informed physicians.
The information on my website is, for the most part, evidence-based. That means that I spend an awful lot of time reading and incorporating into my practice the scientific literature regarding state of the art treatments for shoulder, knee, elbow, and ankle disorders. I want patients to understand that not all MRI findings require surgery ... there are frequently non-operative solutions and options. When surgery is necessary, though, I want to provide patients with a wealth of information to supplement what I have told them in the office, so they can make an informed decision.
I think that a better educated patient will ultimately be a healthier patient. With most of the information we receive, we need to know the source and whether there's an underlying bias or motive behind it. We need to vet the source, and decide whether following advice or opinions is in our best interest. That is the basic premise of shared decision making.
When I'm not working or reading about work, I enjoy the sun, the beach, the ocean, gardening, and golf.

Dr. Luks is one of the few doctors in New York, and perhaps the only doctor in Hudson Valley, performing the Double Bundle ACL reconstruction for instability of the knee.
